Where we go

Guests on the Wanaka River Journeys jet boat on the Matukituki River, Mount Aspiring National Park

We spend our working days in the Matukituki Valley, so people ask us about it more than they ask about the boat. These pages are the answers: what Rob Roy Glacier is actually like to walk to, what Mount Aspiring National Park is and how you get into it, what the valley is, how the drive from Queenstown works, and what to do with a wet day or a winter one. No sales pitch beyond the obvious, which is that we can take you up there in half a day.

The trip itself is the Wanaka jet boat and wilderness walk: four hours from the Wānaka i-SITE, $359 per adult, $229 per child aged 4 to 14, guided walk and all gear included.

About an hour of walking at a gentle pace, and you can stay by the boat instead. Bring a warm layer, a hat and closed shoes; we supply life jackets and wet-weather gear. Minimum age four. If we call a trip off for river levels you are refunded in full.
