FAQs

Booking & cancellation

What's your cancellation policy?

Cancel or change your booking up to 48 hours before departure for a full refund. Within 48 hours of departure, or a no-show on the day, bookings are non-refundable. If we have to cancel for weather, river conditions, low numbers or anything unexpected, we'll do our best to reschedule you; if that doesn't suit, you'll receive a full refund.

What happens if the helicopter flight can't fly?

Helicopter flights and glacier landings are weather dependent. If weather stops the flight, you'll receive a full refund for the helicopter portion and still enjoy the jet boat ride and guided wilderness walk.

Getting there

Where do trips depart from, and where do I park?

All trips depart from outside the Wanaka i-SITE, 99 Ardmore Street, Wānaka. Look for the green logo, you can't miss us. Free long-term parking is available near the lakefront next to Pembroke Park, just outside the CBD. Please avoid the time-restricted parking in front of shops and the Dungarvon Street car park, and allow extra time on public holidays.

We are coming from Queenstown. How long does it take?

About an hour over the Crown Range, a little longer on State Highway 6 through Cromwell in winter. Park free at Pembroke Park by the i-SITE and walk two minutes to the boat. Full detail on our Queenstown to Wanaka page.

Is it right for me?

How fit do I need to be? Is it suitable for older travellers or young children?

Our trips suit most abilities. On the jet boat and wilderness walk you'll climb over boat seats, step onto rocks or riverbanks and walk on uneven ground; the guided walk is relaxed but not flat. If you'd prefer, you can stay near the boat, which is great for young children or a slower pace. If you have difficulty with steps or need help moving about, this trip may not suit. Please tell us about any medical conditions in advance, we're happy to talk it through.

Do I need experience?

No. The jet boat trips suit ages 4+ with no experience needed. Packrafting is beginner-friendly, with a full safety briefing and paddle lesson, but you must be able to swim (ages 10 and up).

Are there age limits?

Jet boat and glacier trips: children 4 to 14, adults 15 and up (children must be accompanied by an adult). Not suitable for infants under 4 or pregnant women. Packrafting: ages 10 and up, must be able to swim, with 10 to 14s paddling alongside a participating adult.

On the day

Do tours run in the rain or bad weather?

Yes, tours go ahead in most conditions, including rain, and the waterfalls and dramatic skies often make it better. You'll be provided with wet-weather gear. If conditions become unsafe (high river levels, strong winds, lightning) the trip may be cancelled or rescheduled, and you'll receive a full refund or the option to rebook.

What should I bring?

Layers are key. Even on warm days bring a sweater or light jacket, as you're in an open boat heading into the mountains. In winter, warm layers, a good jacket, hat and gloves (ski gear is perfect). Trainers are ideal year-round; sturdy sandals are fine in summer. Bring sunglasses, a water bottle and snacks. Cameras are welcome but at your own risk, and waterproof or action cameras with straps are best.

Is lunch included?

On the full-day Packraft trip and the 4WD combos, a tasty lunch from local businesses is included. Please tell us any dietary requirements when you book. On the half-day Jet Boat & Wilderness Walk, bring a small daypack with snacks and drinks.

Safety

Is this safe?

Adventure activities carry inherent risk, and rarely, serious injury. Our guides are highly trained, we're Qualmark endorsed and Maritime NZ certified, every trip starts with a detailed safety briefing, and all participants complete an online waiver. If you're unsure about your fitness, get in touch and we'll help you decide.
